Quidam uerò menſores, ut ratio altitudinis putei dimetiendæ certior ſit
quinque funiculis extentis utuntur: primo obliquè deſcendente, duobus, ſe-
cundo ſcilicet & tertio, quibus eſt cuniculi longitudo, duobus, quibus pu-
tei altitudo: quo ſanè modo conſtituunt quadrangulum, in duos triangu-
los æquales diuiſum: qui magis ad ueritatem dirigit.

Atque hæ rationes altitudinis putei & longitudinis cuniculi dimetiendæ
tunc ueræ ſunt, cum uena atque ſic etiam puteus uel putei uno eodemque teno
re rectà uel obliquè uſque ad cuniculum deſcendit: ſimiliter cùm cuniculus re-
ctà ad puteum pertingit: at cùm uterque modo in hanc, modo in illam partem
ſe flectit, ſi neutrius ſpacium fuerit perfoſſum, nemo omnium mortalium tam
acri eſt ingenio, ut quantum de recto curriculo deflectant animo poſsit cer
nere: ſin totum alterutrius, de alterius quidem longitudine, de alterius uerò
altitudine facilius poſſumus exiſtimare: itaque locus cuniculi, qui eſt ſub pu-
teo iam primum fodi cœpto, ex dimetiendo ſic diſcitur.

mò figitur tripus, itemque ad puteum, qui fodi cœpit, aut ad locum in quo fo
dietur puteus.
Tripus autem fit ex tribus palis in terram infixis, & aſſerculo
quadrangulo, ſuper quem inſtrumentum, partes mundi indicans, ſtatuitur,
in palos impoſito & ad ipſos affixo.
