            dendoſi ſi inganano. </s>

            qualor ſento profferir legge di natura, prima di
              <lb/>
            acconſentire a ciò, che altri ne dice, ſoglio con-
              <lb/>
            ſiderare attentamente, in qual ſignificato prenda
              <lb/>
            un tal nome colui, che lo profferiſce. </s>

            to mi torna alla memoria, parmi di averlo udito
              <lb/>
            prendere in molte maniere; </s>

            più comuni. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s2994" xml:space="preserve">Primamente ſogliono chiamarſi leg-

            gi certe conſuetudini più generali e più coſtanti,
              <lb/>
            che la natura ſegue nel produrre et ordinar le co-
              <lb/>
            ſe; </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s2995" xml:space="preserve">le quali conſuetudini ſono bene ſpeſſo acciden-
              <lb/>
            tali all’ eſſenza de’ corpi, e molte volte arbitrarie
              <lb/>
            alla natura iſteſſa. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s2996" xml:space="preserve">Leggi ancora ho udito chiamar
              <lb/>
            talvolta certi principj, che piuttoſto neceſſità do-
              <lb/>
            vrebbon dirſi, che leggi; </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s2997" xml:space="preserve">come, che il tut-
              <lb/>
            to debba eſſer maggiore di qual ſivoglia delle ſue
              <lb/>
            parti; </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s2998" xml:space="preserve">e che due coſe immedeſimate con una terza
              <lb/>
            debbano altresì eſſere immedeſimate tra loro; </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s2999" xml:space="preserve">et
              <lb/>
            altre tali neceſſità eterne et immutabili, che ven-
              <lb/>
            gono ſotto nome di aſſiomi, ne poſſon dirſi pro-
              <lb/>
            priamente conſuetudini introdotte dalla natura,
              <lb/>
            eſſendo @osì antiche, come la natura ſteſſa. </s>

              <lb/>
            dunque conſiderando io queſti due varj ſentimenti,
              <lb/>
            che ſi danno al nome di legge, dico che io non mi
              <lb/>
            arriſchierei già di formare una ſuppoſizione, che
              <lb/>
            foſſe contraria ad un aſſioma; </s>

              <lb/>
            molti eccellentiſſimi metafiſici, a’ quali ha dato l’
              <lb/>
            animo di farlo. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s3002" xml:space="preserve">E la ragione ſi è, perchè ſe gli
              <lb/>
            aſſiomi ſono, come io credo che ſieno, legati tut-
              <lb/>
            ti inſieme, e congiunti; </s>
