EXPERIMENTUM CXXXI.
Virga ferrrea, cylindrica, diametri {1/12} poll. ſed 6 longa, impo-
ſita fuit Igni luculento, ut ſecundum longitudinem in Meridiano
per Boream &
Auſtrum tranſeunte jaceret: Ignis non erat exſtru-
ctus in loco prope Ferrum, ſed ubi modo lapides dabantur, ne vis
Ferri alterius Experimentum turbaret:
probe per totam longitudi-
nem candefacta, forcipe æneo, &
leni motu abſque ulla concuſſio-
ne, ex Igne exemta, atque horizontaliter retenta, admovebatur
illico admodum mobili Verſorio, vi donato Magnetica;
ita autem
movebatur, ut manſerit in eodem Meridiano;
tum vero Virgæ
cuſpis Auſtralis attrahebat polum Verſorii Boreum;
& ejuſdem Vir-
gæ, ſed converſæ cuſpis Borealis attraxit quoque polum Verſorii
Boreum.
2. Loco hujus tenuis Virgæ alia duplo craſſioris diametri & 10
longa pollices, novo tentamini inſerviit, hæc in Igne probe can-
defacta, deinde exemta, atque Verſorio oppoſita, ſuis extremita-
tibus eoſdem effectus Attractionis oſtendit, ac prior.
3. Imo dedit plane eosdem eventus parallelopipedum ferreum,
5 pollices longum, baſeos quadratæ unius pollicis.
Hæc tentamina capi modo potuerunt cum Verſorio capſulæ
æneæ vitro tectæ incluſo, Ignis enim ex ferramentis explorandis
tanto cum impetu egreditur Verſoriumque concutit, nudum, ut
ipſi tremores, oſcillationes, motuſque alios inordinatos inducat,
impedientes, quominus aliquid obſervetur attractionem ſpe-
ctans.
Agit ergo vis Magnetica, ſive in lapidea ſive in ferrea ſubſtantia
hæſerit, in Ferrum ignitum, illud attrahendo, Magnetem enim
Ferrum candefactum attrahere confirmarunt Colepreſſius in Philoſ.
