            Reſultate ergeben. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s1679" xml:space="preserve">Während
              <emph style="sp">Higgins</emph>
            aus ſeinen Beobach-
              <lb/>
            tungen den Schluß zog, daß Sirius ſich in jeder Sekunde
              <lb/>
            nahezu um 63 Kilometer von uns entfernt, lauten die neueren
              <lb/>
            Ergebniſſe der in Greenwich erfolgten Meſſungen dahin, daß
              <lb/>
            dieſe Geſchwindigkeit in jeder Sekunde nur circa 32 Kilometer
              <lb/>
            beträgt. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s1680" xml:space="preserve">Zu beachten iſt hierbei freilich, daß Sirius ein Doppel-
              <lb/>
            ſtern iſt und alſo außer ſeinen Bewegungen im Weltraum auch
              <lb/>
            noch eine Bewegung um den gemeinſamen Schwerpunkt macht,
              <lb/>
            der zwiſchen ihm und ſeinem Begleiter liegt. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s1681" xml:space="preserve">Hierzu tritt noch
              <lb/>
            der Umſtand, daß Sirius in einer Himmelsgegend exiſtiert, von
              <lb/>
            welcher ſich das ganze Sonnenſyſtem ohnehin in ſeiner Be-
              <lb/>
            wegung entfernt, und außerdem darf nicht unbeachtet bleiben,
              <lb/>
            daß unſere Aſtronomen ihre Beobachtungen auf der Erde
              <lb/>
            machen, welche in ihrem Umlauf um die Sonne in jeder Se-
              <lb/>
            kunde circa 30 Kilometer dahinfliegt. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s1682" xml:space="preserve">Dieſe Umſtände be-
              <lb/>
            wirken, daß jede Meſſung am Sirius eine ſehr kombinierte
              <lb/>
            Geſchwindigkeit ergeben muß, deren wirkliches Reſultat ſich
              <lb/>
            nicht leicht angeben läßt. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s1683" xml:space="preserve">Hoffentlich werden fortgeſetzte
              <lb/>
            Meſſungen bald eine größere Sicherheit über die Hauptſ@age
              <lb/>
            herbeiführen.</s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s1685" xml:space="preserve">Im Sternbild der Zwillinge nehmen wir die zwei Sterne
              <lb/>
            Caſtor und Pollux wahr, welchen man nach den mythiſchen
              <lb/>
            Anſchauungen des Altertums noch immer eine gewiſſe Gleich-
              <lb/>
            mäßigkeit und Zuſammengehörigkeit andichtet. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s1686" xml:space="preserve">Die wiſſen-
              <lb/>
            ſchaftliche Unterſuchung indeſſen zeigt eine ſehr weſentliche Ver-
              <lb/>
            ſchiedenheit derſelben, ſowohl in ihrem Weſen wie in ihren
              <lb/>
            Bewegungen. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s1687" xml:space="preserve">Caſtor iſt ein Doppelſtern. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s1688" xml:space="preserve">Seine Helligkeit
              <lb/>
            verdankt er dem nahen Zuſammenſtehen von zwei Sternen,
              <lb/>
            von welchen einer dritter und der andere vierter Größe iſt.
              <lb/>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s1689" xml:space="preserve">Die zwei Sterne ſtehen einander ſo nahe, daß ſie zuſammen
              <lb/>
            wie ein einziger Stern zweiter Größe erſcheinen. </s>

            gegen iſt ein einfacher Stern zweiter Größe. </s>
