            durch faſt regelmäßig zehn Stunden fortgeſetzt, wobei im

            erſten Verſuch über die Heizkraft des Kienholzes 889 Pfund

            dieſes Brennmaterials verbrannt wurden.</s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s4872" xml:space="preserve">Nun aber ſpielt bei der Heizkraft die Feuchtigkeit oder
              <lb/>
            Trockenheit eines Brennmaterials eine außerordentlich große
              <lb/>
            Rolle; </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s4873" xml:space="preserve">da ſich aber kein Brennmaterial von vollſtändiger
              <lb/>
            Trockenheit herſtellen läßt, ſo mußte ermittelt werden, wie viel
              <lb/>
            Pfund Waſſer in dieſen 889 Pfund Kienholz ſtecken. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s4874" xml:space="preserve">— Beim
              <lb/>
            erſten der erwähnten Verſuche ergab ſich, daß 180 Pſund
              <lb/>
            Waſſer darin enthalten waren. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s4875" xml:space="preserve">Da aber auch von jedem Holz
              <lb/>
            Aſche zurückbleibt, die aus unverbrennlichen Teilen beſteht und
              <lb/>
            zur Heizung nichts beiträgt, ſo muß auch die Summe der
              <lb/>
            Aſche abgezogen werden, und dies ergab beim erſten Verſuch,
              <lb/>
            daß eigentlich noch weniger als rund 700 Pfund Brennſtoff
              <lb/>
            bei demſelben wirkſam waren.</s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s4877" xml:space="preserve">Aus dem, was wir unſeren Leſern bereits bei der ge-
              <lb/>
            wöhnlichen Heizung vorgeführt haben, wiſſen wir ſchon, daß
              <lb/>
            die Witterung auf das Brennen des Feuers, namentlich auf
              <lb/>
            den Zug, von Einfluß iſt. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s4878" xml:space="preserve">Bei der Genauigkeit der von Brix
              <lb/>
            angeſtellten Verſuche dürfte dieſer Umſtand nicht unberückſichtigt
              <lb/>
            bleiben; </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s4879" xml:space="preserve">wir finden daher auch den jedesmaligen Stand des
              <lb/>
            Barometers beim jedesmaligen Unterſuchen des ganzen Vor-
              <lb/>
            ganges angegeben. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s4880" xml:space="preserve">Außerdem aber mußte ſtets die Wärme
              <lb/>
            des Waſſers beim Beginn des Verſuches unterſucht werden;
              <lb/>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s4881" xml:space="preserve">ferner die Wärme der Luft draußen, ebenſo wie die des
              <lb/>
            Brennraumes, der Luftzüge und des Schornſteins.</s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s4883" xml:space="preserve">Schritt man nun zum Verſuch und begann endlich das
              <lb/>
            Brennen des Feuers, ſo mußte fortdauernd ermittelt werden,
              <lb/>
            unter welchen Umſtänden der beſte Erfolg von dem Brenn-
              <lb/>
            material zu erzielen iſt. </s>

            ſchiedene Einrichtungen nötig, um Veränderungen des Raumes
              <lb/>
