            wie von allen Neigungen, auf Zeiten frei machen kann, die

            aber unter Umſtänden mächtig genug erwacht, um ihr Recht

            geltend zu machen.</s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s491" xml:space="preserve">Wir halten daher die Moral für eine dem Menſchen-
              <lb/>
            geſchlecht natürliche Neigung, für eine naturgemäße Richtung

            ſeines Geiſtes, und finden es deshalb erklärlich, weshalb die
              <lb/>
            Moral-Lehren zwar ſich mehr oder weniger ausgebildet vorfinden
              <lb/>
            in verſchiedenen Völkern und Zeiten, jedoch das moraliſche Thun
              <lb/>
            und Laſſen eine ziemlich gleiche Stufe im geſamten Menſchen-
              <lb/>
            geſchlecht innehält. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s492" xml:space="preserve">Der Einzelne kann ſich wohl von dieſem
              <lb/>
            Naturgeſetz ſeiner geiſtigen Neigung ebenſo mehr oder minder
              <lb/>
            losſagen, wie die einzelne Mutter es mit der natürlichen
              <lb/>
            Liebe zu ihrem Kinde vermag. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s493" xml:space="preserve">Der Einzelne vermag wohl
              <lb/>
            mit einer höheren Bildung des Geiſtes eine klarere, ausdrucks-
              <lb/>
            vollere Moral an den Tag zu legen, wie es der gebildeten
              <lb/>
            Mutter leichter möglich iſt, ihrem Gefühl für ihr Kind Worte
              <lb/>
            zu geben. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s494" xml:space="preserve">Im allgemeinen aber ſagt ſich die Menſchheit
              <lb/>
            ebenſowenig von der Moral los, ſo wenig ſich die Mütter im
              <lb/>
            allgemeinen von der Liebe zu den Kindern loszuſagen ver-
              <lb/>
            mögen. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s495" xml:space="preserve">Beides ſind Neigungen, die der Natur des Menſchen
              <lb/>
            angehören, und die Menſchheit iſt nie ſo naturwidrig, ſich von
              <lb/>
            der Natur zu entfernen.</s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s497" xml:space="preserve">Wie wir in Kapitel IX geſehen haben, daß die ewig er-
              <lb/>
            ſcheinenden Denkformen ſich dennoch leicht als allmählich ent-
              <lb/>
            wickelt ergeben, ſo iſt es auch mit den Forderungen der Moral.</s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s499" xml:space="preserve">Es iſt wieder die Lebenserhaltung oder Lebensſtörung, die

            für die Entſtehung und Erhaltung des moraliſchen Verhaltens

            maßgebend ſind, nur daß es ſich hier nicht um die Lebens-
              <lb/>
            Erhaltung und -Störung der Einzelweſen handelt, ſondern viel-
              <lb/>
            mehr um diejenigen von Verbänden, Gemeinden.</s>
