Exponitur quare, & quando aer relictus in fiſtula Torri­
celliana altitudinem mercurij conſuetam deprimere
debeat; & ſimul traditur modus menſurandi
maximam aeris dilatationem.
EX Roberuallij pulcherrima obſeruatione illius
veſicæ cyprinæ, quæ in vacuo fiſtulæ dilatatur
ego conieci reperiri facilè poſſe in eodem Torricel­
liano inſtrumento maximam amplitudinem, ad quam
aer non compreſſus à vi externa, & in ſua libertatę
relictus dilatari queat, quæ dilatatio certum, ac de­
terminatum ſpatium in vacuo Torricelliano occupa­
ret, quod nimirum ſufficienter exciperet maximam
eiuſdem aeris expanſionem.
Hinc poſtea deducebam
molem aeris, quæ præcisè ſpatium vacuum in Tor­
ricelliano inſtrumento occuparet (quam molem me­
diocrem appellabimus) non poſſe deorsùm impelle­
re, & magis comprimere ſuperficiem ſupremam mer­
curij ſtagnantis, ac proindè omnes moles aeris mi­
nores illa, & ideò minus ſpatium poſt totalem eo­
rum dilatationem exigentes non poſſe prædictam
mercurij ſupremam ſuperficiem deprimere, cum è con­
trà moles omnes acris excedentes ſupradictam me­
diocrem molem, & ideò exigentes amplius ſpa­
tium deprimere neceſſariò ſupremam mercurij ſuper­
ficiem in fiſtula infra conſuetam altitudinem vnius
cubiti, & quadrantis.
