gutta aliqua mercurij ſubito ceſſat æquilibrium, &
ideò maius pondus collateralis columnæ aereæ po­
teſt ſursùm intra fiſtulam impellere molem minus pon­
derantis
mercurij incluſi; & licèt ab initio motus mer­
curij ſursùm ſit tardus, & debilis, tamen in progreſ­
ſu, & continuatione prædicti motus dum repetitis
ictibus mercurius ab aeris pondere, & vi eius elaſti­
ca continenter impellitur, nouos gradus impetus, &
velocitatis creat, qui impetus ſunt integri, & eiuſdem
energiæ, non enim à vacuo intra fiſtulam incluſo de­
bilitari poſſunt, veluti debilitantur impetus corporum

per aerem excurrentium; prædicti verò gradus velo­
citatum ſimul coaceruati, tandem vim illam ingentem
componunt, quæ diffringere fundum vitreæ fiſtulæ
poteſt; adde quod corpora grauiſſima; vt eſt hydrar­
gyrum validius fuſcipiunt retinentque vim impetus
præconcepti, & hinc ſequitur percuſſio eius validiſ­
ſima in vitri fundum.
Supradictum ratiocinium ab ip­
ſa experientia confirmari videtur; ſi enim fiſtula præ­
longa ſubtili, & gracili fundo clauſa, & mercurio ple­
na inuerſo ore infra mercurium in ſcutella ſtagnantem
demerſa, & inclinato ſitu detineatur vt mercurius
minus vno digito à ſupremo fundo diſtet, tunc ſu­
ſpenſa fiſtula aer adueniens fundum eius non diffrin­
git, at perpendiculari ſitu erecta fiſtula aer ſuccedens
ingenti impetu diſtantem à fundo mercurium propel­
lit vt eum diffringat, quia nimirum in prolixiori mo­
tu plures gradus impetus creari, & ſimul coaceruari
poſſunt.
