ing the Illumination of the Air in the
Night. And we particularly remember,
that, being at ſome diſtance from London
one Night, that the People, upon a very
well-come Occaſion, teſtified their Joy
by numerous Bon-fires; though, by rea
ſon of the Interpoſition of the Houſes,
we could not ſee the Fires themſelves, yet
we could plainly ſee the Air all enlighten'd
over and near the City; which argu'd,
that the lucid Beams ſhot upwards from
the Fires, met in the Air with Corpuſcles
opacous enough to reflect them to our
Eyes.

excluding other ways, or denying inviſi
ble Pores in the ſolideſt Bodies) when
the continuity of a Diaphanous Body
happens to be interrupted by a great num
ber of Surfaces, which, like ſo many
little Looking-glaſſes, do confuſedly re
preſent a multitude of little and ſeeming
ly contiguous Images of the elucid Body.
