              Egge, which, upon the Exſuction of the

              ambient Air, was unable to reſiſt alto­

              gether as much as formerly the preſſure of
                <lb/>
              the included Air, and of the Atmoſphere,
                <lb/>
              which by the intervenſion of the Water,
                <lb/>
              preſſ'd upon its concave ſurface: Which
                <lb/>
              ſeem'd probable, as well by what was a­
                <lb/>
              bove deliver'd, in the Experiment about
                <lb/>
              the breaking of the Glaſs by the force of
                <lb/>
              the Atmoſphere; as by this notable Cir­
                <lb/>
              cumſtance (which we divers times ob­
                <lb/>
              ſerv'd) That when by drawing the Air out
                <lb/>
              of the Receiver, the Water in the Pipe </s>
