zum Pol des großen Magneten hinweiſt.

Da dieſe Erſcheinung vollkommen erklärlich iſt aus dem

ſchiedene Richtung giebt, und man wird es begreiflich finden,
daß die unausgeſetzten Verſuche zu dem Gedanken führten, daß
die Erde ſelbſt ein großer Magnet iſt, oder mindeſtens wie
ein großer Magnet wirkt.

XXX. Die magnetiſche Kraft der Erde.
In der That, alle Beobachtungen leiten darauf hin, daß
der Erdball ſelber nicht nur ein Magnet iſt, ſondern daß in
demſelben der Sitz der magnetiſchen Kraft ſei, welche im
magnetiſierten Eiſen ſo beſtimmt und unzweifelhaft auftritt,
und die ſich, wie wir bereits wiſſen, mindeſtens teilweiſe in
allen Körpern äußert.
