              former une palée, l’on rencontre du roc dans le lit de la riviere,

              poſitivement dans l’endroit où l’on en veut enfoncer; </s>

              n’a pû faire des batardaux & </s>
              <s xml:id="echoid-s7727" xml:space="preserve">les épuiſemens, enſorte qu’il reſte 5

              ou 6 pieds d’eau, on ſera ſans doute embaraſſé dans un pareil cas,
                <lb/>
              puiſqu’il n’eſt pas poſſible que des hommes tout couverts d’eau,
                <lb/>
              puiſſent faire un trou de 3 ou 4 pieds dans le roc: </s>

              ter une pareille difficulté, il faut faire deux tonneaux ouverts par
                <lb/>
              les deux bouts, dont l’un ait 9 pieds de diamétre & </s>
              <s xml:id="echoid-s7729" xml:space="preserve">l’autre 5, & </s>
              <s xml:id="echoid-s7730" xml:space="preserve">que
                <lb/>
              ces deux tonneaux ſoient deux pieds plus hauts que la profondeur
                <lb/>
              de l’eau, l’on placera le plus grand dans la riviere à l’endroit où l’on
                <lb/>
              veut percer, de maniere que le roc ſe trouve dans le milieu du
                <lb/>
              tonneau, enſuite l’on enfoncera les douves de quelques pouces
                <lb/>
              dans le lit de la riviere, & </s>
              <s xml:id="echoid-s7731" xml:space="preserve">l’on chargera le deſſus du tonneau de
                <lb/>
              façon que le courant ne l’ébranle point, après l’on mettra le petit
                <lb/>
              tonneau dans le milieu du grand, & </s>
              <s xml:id="echoid-s7732" xml:space="preserve">l’on remplira de terre glaiſe
                <lb/>
              l’eſpace qui eſt entre deux, que l’on battra avec la demoiſelle,
                <lb/>
              pour qu’elle faſſe un bon maſſif; </s>
              <s xml:id="echoid-s7733" xml:space="preserve">enfin l’on vuidera l’eau qui ſera
                <lb/>
              dans le petit tonneau, & </s>
              <s xml:id="echoid-s7734" xml:space="preserve">l’on y introduira un ouvrier qui fera le trou

              qu’on s’étoit propoſé.</s>

              21, je crois qu’il eſt inuile de m’étendre ſur l’aſſemblage des pie-

              ces dont il eſt compoſé: </s>
