            leur magnificence, on peur dire avec juſtice que nous ne ſommes

            que leurs copiſtes pour la décoration, & </s>

            ture de nosjours n’a de prix qu’autant qu’elle eſt conforme à la leur;

            quelque habile que l’on ſoit on ne peut jamais s’aſſurer du ſuccès, ne

            travaillant pour ainſi dire que par conjecture, n’ayant point de princi-

            pes démontrés ſur leſquels on puiſſe ſe déterminer. </s>

            fonder ſur quelques régles certaines, ce ne peut être que ſur celle de

            la Perſpective qui pourra faire connoîtreles vraies proportions qu’on

            à l’étude d’une ſcience ſi neceſſaire, & </s>

            avec l’Architecture, qu’il eſt preſque impoſſible d’atteindre à la

            perfection de celle-ci ſans avoir une connoiſſance très diſtincte

            tant de parties differentes, dont les unes ſont plus enfoncées que les

            effets par une ſimple Elevation Géometralle.</s>

            Aſtragales, ellesne s’employent qu’aux Bâtimens ruſtiques qu’on ne

            peut employer à propos celles de l’Entablement d’un des cinq Ordres,

            près, afin d’avoir égard aux circonſtances les plus eſſentielles, ſoit
              <lb/>
            par raport aux differens effets que peuvent cauſer les moulures,
              <lb/>
            ou à la nature de la pierre, qui ne ſe rencontre pas toûjours pro- </s>
