Out of Sr Walter Copes Apology
For the Earle of
For the Earle of
Treasureship. He found dates there in the Exchequer
of 3 or 400,000£, to the King, what
were separate what desperate no man knew. he sought
for better knowledge.
He caused his the K. Mannors to be surveyed.
The K. custodye landes anciently called the crowne landes
conserved in the pipe. The decayed revenues he
retained by the K. commission of Assertes.
He caused the K. woodes to be surveyed.
He raysed the K. revenues, out of the copyholders for
[???]. Coppyholders for of inheritance. Mastes & commons
Casuall fines. extended lands surveyed.
He improved the customs, & advanced them from 86,000£
to 120,000£. & from 120,000£ to 135,000£ per anum.
He got money for the K. by from the dealers in Allome.
By his [???] for the Baronets he hath brought into the K. coffers
80,000£.
By his bargayne for bringing water to London likely to bring
in great yearly reveneu to the K.
He was a patron of all Industry & manufactures, of there [???] &
intentions. As for the [???] of Allum, of Buffes, for fishing, Copper
& coperall copperall of Iron & steele, sault by the home, sault upon salt,
& men farmers & fiers for easy

Queen Elizab. raysed the sweet wines from 3s 6d to 40s the tonne.
And upon the currents for every 5 hundred 5s 6d.

but imposed specially upon silkes, spices, lawnes, cambrickes, whale bones
& such like thinges rather of dilicacy then necessity, allowing free
