The calculations in Add MS f. , f. , f. , f. , f. , f. , f. assumed that ten males would give rise to a steadily increasing population, measured by the triangular numbers 1, 3, 6, 10, .... This is the situation indicated in the first 20 rows of the sketch on the left. In this folio, however, Harriot assumes that each male dies (or ceases to reproduce) at the age of 40. In this case their (male) offspring are measured by the series written across the top of the page, reaching a peak of 75 after 15 years.]
