At ſtibio ſic argentum ab auro ſeparetur. Si in beſſe auri fuerint argenti
ſeptem, uel ſex, uel quinque binæ ſextulæ, ad unam auri partem adijciantur tres
ſtibij partes: ſed ne ſtibium conſumat aurum in catino fictili igneſcente co­
quatur cum ære: quod ſi aurum aliquam æris portionem in ſe continet, ad
ſtibij beſſem adijciatur æris ſicilicus: ſi nullam, ſemuncia: nam æs ſtibio ad
aurum ab argento ſeparandum eſt adiumento.
Aurum autem primò inijcia
tur in catinum fictilem igneſcentem: atque quàm primum liquatum in orbem
fertur ad ipſum paucum ſtibium adijciatur ne exiliat: id liquefactum breui
temporis ſpacio etiam in circum fertur: quod cùm factum fuerit omne reli­
quum ſtibium inijcere conuenit, catinum operculo tegere, miſturam coque
re, donec quis iter longum paſſus quinque & triginta facere poſſit: mox effun­
datur in alterum catinum ferreum, ſuperius latum, inferius anguſtum, in fer
reo uel ligneo trunco collocatum, ſed prius calefactum, & ſeuo uel cera illi­
tum: atque is concutiatur: quo modo aurea maſſa in ipſius fundo reſidebit:
quæ catino refrigerato decutiatur, eademque ratione adhuc quater coquatur:
ſed ſingulis uicibus minore ſtibij pondere ad aurum adiecto: ſitque ultima ſti
bium auri tantummodo duplum, aut paulo amplius.
