At duabus de cauſis uenæ uruntur: uel enim ut ex duris molles & fragi­
les factæ facilius aut tundi malleis pilisúe, aut mox excoqui poſſint: uel ut
res pingues comburantur ſulfur ſcilicet, bitumen, auripigmentum, ſandaraca: ſed
sulfur ſæpius in uenis metallicis ineſt, & plerunque plus quàm cætera nocet
metallis omnibus, excepto auro: uerùm maximè nocet ferro, minus plum­
bo candido quàm uel cinereo, uel nigro, uel argento, uel æri.
Quoniam ue­
rò rariſſimè inuenitur aurum, in quo non ſit argentum, etiam uenæ auri ſul­
fur in ſe continentes urendæ ſunt priuſquam excoquantur: etenim ſulfur in
cinerem reſoluit metallum in uehementiſſimo fornacum igni, atque ex eo re­
crementum efficit: idem agit bitumen: imo interdum argentum conſumit:
quod in cadmia bituminoſa licet uidere.
Sed nunc ad urendi modos uenio: &
primò quidem ad eum, qui omnib.
uenis communis eſt. Terra tantummodo effoſſa
fit area quadrangula ſatis magna & à fronte aperta: ſuper quam ligna continenter
componuntur: & ſuper ea alia ligna tranſuerſa item continenter locantur: quocirca hanc
lignorum ſtruem noſtri cratem appellant: id uerò iteratur uſque dum ſtrues illa cubitum
unum uel duo fiat alta: tum ſuper eam imponuntur uenarum qualiumcunque mal
leis comminutarum fragmenta: primò maxima, deinde mediocria, poſtre­
mò minima: ſicque coagmentatio clementer aſſurgens metæ forma figura­
tur.
