              Air; you hold a Coal or Brand in that

              ſtream of Vapors that iſſues out of the
                <lb/>
              narrow mouth of it, you will finde this
                <lb/>
              vapid or rorid Air, (if I may ſo call it)
                <lb/>
              to blow the Fire very ſtrongly and with a
                <lb/>
              roaring noiſe. </s>
              <s>And that it be not ſaid
                <lb/>
              that 'tis by the external Air which the a­
                <lb/>
              queous ſteams drive before them, and
                <lb/>
              not by the Steams themſelves, that the
                <lb/>
              Blaſt is made and the Flame excited; it
                <lb/>
              has been obſerv'd, that by approaching
                <lb/>
              the Coal or Brand almoſt to the mouth
                <lb/>
              of the
                <emph type="italics"/>
              Æolipile,
                <emph.end type="italics"/>
              the winde appear'd more

              vehement then if the Body to be kindled

              <s>But in regard the elaſtical power of the

              Stream, iſſuing out of an
                <emph type="italics"/>
              Æolipile,
                <emph.end type="italics"/>
              ſeems
                <lb/>
              manifeſtly due to the heat that expands

              and agitates the aqueous Particles where­
                <lb/>
              of that Stream conſiſts, and that ſuch
                <lb/>
              rapid winds ſeem to be but water ſcatter'd
                <lb/>
              into little parts and ſet a moving; ſince
                <lb/>
              we finde, that holding a Knife, or any
                <lb/>
              ſolid, ſmooth and cloſe Body againſt the
                <lb/>
              ſtream that iſſues out of the Æolipile, the
                <lb/>
              vapors condenſing upon it, will preſently
                <lb/>
              cover it with water: It will be very per­
                <lb/>
              tinent to ſubjoyn a notable Experiment
                <lb/>
              that I remember I have met with in the </s>
