[Commentary:
The page is part of Harriot’s calculation of ranges and his search for the projection angle of maximum range in the context of the inclined-plane conception of projectile motion, see (Schemmel 2008, Section 8.3). ]
Harriot derives a proportion for calculating ranges that does not involve the time of flight of a projectile. The calculations on Add MS 6788, f. 158v suggested the proportion involving the time of flight to represent a detour. As a matter of fact, however, using the new proportion the determination of ranges becomes more laborious. Accordingly, on the following folios (Add MS 6788, f. 159v ff.) Harriot returns to the method used on Add MS 6788, f. 158v, see (Schemmel 2008, 312-3). ]
