Esto rhombus ex conis æqui-
cruribus compositus abcd.

[Translation: Let this rhombus abcd be composed from equal-sided cones. Let one of the cones be cut by a plane surface which is equidistant from the base ad let the section be ef. From the circle whose diameter ef let there be erected a cone whose vertex is d, and make the rhombus ebfd. Let dg be perpendicular to ab produced.
Esto conus hlk, cuius basis
circa hk sit æqualis curvæ
superficiei inter lineas ef, et ac.
et sit: li=dg
[Translation: Let there be a cone hlk whose base is equal to the curved surface between the lines ef and ac, and let li=dg.
Dico quod: si a rhombo abcd
abstruhatur rhombus ebfd:
resliquum solidum erit,
æquale cono hlk
[Translation: I say that, if from the rhombus abcd there is taken away the rhombus ebfd, the remaining solid will equal to the cone hlk.
